What’s important to remember about Sahra Wagenknecht is that she basically abandoned Marxism and made a turn towards regulated, free-market capitalism of the type that West German conservatives implemented in the post-war reconstruction period. Meaning a very strict stance on emerging monopolies; corporate-union-cooperation and state intervention for the sake of struggling and/or strategically important industries. The mastermind of this economic policy back in the day was a guy named Ludwig Erhard (conservative and, needless to say, former Nazi), who Wagenknecht quoted extensively in a programmatic book a few years ago. In an interview I read with her this week, she sounded like a conservative when it came to economics, minus the tax reduction bullshit. She doesn’t seem to realize the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuels, and imo she’s artificially hyping a culture war between „woke“ agendas and workers‘ interests - as if a supermarket cashier or a factory worker couldn’t be queer or affected by racism.
The biggest benefit of her party might be that she‘ll attract voters from the fascist AfD, which sits at 25% in the polls.
